ECRA Member Dr. Rehana Shrestha

"My research goal is to develop strategies for the application of digitally enabled participatory methods to enable intersectoral and transdisciplinary collaboration to improve the health of the population."

With the emergence of Health in All Policies (HiAP), efforts are increasing to improve the health of the population by integrating health considerations into societal policy-making outside the health sector. Inter-sectoral and transdisciplinary cooperation between different disciplines and actors from different sectors, including citizens, provides a means to integrate knowledge and efforts across academic disciplines and sectors and beyond. However, such intersectoral and transdisciplinary cooperation in public health often faces a number of challenges. Recent developments in public health show that digital tools and technologies are widely used for prevention and health promotion activities. Nevertheless, research on the application of digital tools and technologies to facilitate intersectoral and transdisciplinary cooperation in the context of public health remains scarce. Therefore, the research objective is to develop a conceptual and practical understanding and strategies for the application of digitally enabled participatory methods to facilitate intersectoral and transdisciplinary cooperation to improve public health. Participatory research approaches supported by both quantitative and qualitative methods will be used for data collection and analysis. In addition, the "Living Lab" concept will be explored in various transdisciplinary and community-based research projects.
